Abstract
Goals of chemical education in elementary and high schools are discuss ed: preparation of pupils for current life, preparation for studies al universities, creation of the ideas concerning the structure of the w orld, motivation for interest in chemistry and preparation for employm ent. The view is expressed that it is indispensable to adapt the metho d of chemical education to new living conditions in the Czech Republic .
