Brm. Decastro et al., CALCULATED LONDON PI-ELECTRON MAGNETIC-PROPERTIES OF SOME CARBON-ATOMFRAGMENTS EXTANT ON THE SURFACE OF ICOSAHEDRAL C-60 (BUCKMINSTERFULLERENE), Croatica chemica acta, 66(1), 1993, pp. 49-58
Semi-empirical calculations, of varying degrees of sophistication, are
effected in order to predict the >>London<< pi-electron magnetic-prop
erties of several carbon-atom fragments - some large, some small - tha
t are extant on the spherical surface of the truncated-icosahedral C60
cluster known as Buckminsterfullerene. Calculations by the least-appr
oximate of the methods that have been applied predict every one of the
Buckminsterfullerene fragments studied to display >>London<< pi-elect
ron magnetic-properties that are, overall, diamagnetic - to the extent
of between ca. 1/3 of, and ca. 5 times, the benzene value.
