A model, derived in a previous paper, for the reaction between a gaseo
us oxidant and a solid porous fuel is analysed further for general Rob
in boundary conditions. Numerical solutions are obtained and the effec
ts of varying the dimensionless parameters, particularly the Frank-Kam
enetskii parameter lambda, and the Lewis number L, are discussed in de
tail and compared with results obtained previously when Dirichlet boun
dary conditions are applied. Analytic solutions are obtained for the s
mall-time development and for large values of lambda. This latter solu
tion shows the existence of a propagating reaction-diffusion burning w
ave, and has features which are qualitatively different to those deriv
ed earlier.
