Artificial Neural Networks are the massively parallel interconnection
of simple processing elements. Computing times for the simulation of t
hese parallel systems on today's von-Neumann-computers increase with t
he squared number of processing elements. There is a need for applicat
ion specific hardware. This paper describes various investigations of
analog as well as digital hardware for neural networks. Possible solut
ions for the connection problem and different circuit designs will be
explained. Then our cascadable digital circuit for the emulation of a
biology-oriented, dynamic neural network will be presented.
