Abstract
A new homologous series of 2-chloro-3-methylpropanoyloxy)-phenyl}-pyri midines has been synthesized. Polymorphy, phase transition temperature s and transition enthalpies as well as the ferroelectric properties of these compounds are presented. Especially, the influence of the lengt h of the non chiral side chain on the tilt angle (measured by x-ray) a nd the spontaneous polarization in the SmC phase as well as in a nove l smectic phase type (SmM) which has been discovered in these compoun ds will be discussed.
