Abstract
Spectroscopic and lasing properties of Gd3Ga5O12:Cr, Nd(GGG:Cr,Nd) and YAG:Nd crystals in the 1.3-1.45 mum wavelength range have been compar ed. Stimulated emission cross sections of Nd3+ ions within this wavele ngth region have been evaluated. For the first time oscillation at 1.4 237 mum wavelength in GGG:Cr,Nd crystal have been obtained. Output ene rgy of 2.3 J with total efficiency of 1.2% have been obtained at this wavelength for a flash-pumped GGG:Cr,Ce,Nd laser in free-running mode. Average output power of 21.6 W at 13 pps repetition rate have been ac hieved. GGG:Cr,Nd crystals advantages for 1.4 mum lasing compared to Y AG:Nd crystals are discussed.
