Abstract
The kinetics of the oxidation reaction of ethane-1,2-diol by alkaline hexacyanoferrate (III) was studied spectrophotometrically. The effects of temperature and concentrations of hexacyanoferrate (III), diol, hi droxide ions and catalyst on reaction rate were analyzed. These result s sugget the formation of a complex between sustrate and ruthenium (II I) especies, which undergoes disproportionation in the rate determinin g step.
