Abstract
Reaction of 2,3:4,5-di-o-isopropylidene-aldehyde-D-arabinose with meth yl-methyl, ethyl-ethyl and phenyl-phenyl-thiomethylsulfoxides, gives t he corresponding C-alkylation products as mixtures of isomeric sulfoxi des. The appearance of major D-manno configuration in products is show n by LiAlH4 reduction and total hydrolysis reactions.
