This report describes an HIV-seropositive patient with symptoms sugges
tive of Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia. The final diagnosis of pulmona
ry embolism was delayed because initially only HIV-specific complicati
ons were considered. The relation between AIDS and pulmonary embolism
is discussed briefly.
