A matrix of poly(methyl methacrylate-co-maleic anhydride) with surface
containing functional anhydride groups of different percentage was pr
epared by solution polymerization and characterized. Acriflavine was b
ound on the surface of this matrix by chemical bonding in organic medi
um. The amount of acriflavine chemically bound to the matrix was spect
roscopically characterized and the in vitro release rate of acriflavin
e in weakly basic medium was established along with the determination
of its antimicrobial activity.
