Bjm. Reddy et Kn. Reddy, EFFECT OF PREVIOUS HEAT-TREATMENT ON IONIC-CONDUCTIVITY OF YTTRIUM-DOPED KBR CRYSTALS, Materials science & engineering. B, Solid-state materials for advanced technology, 21(1), 1993, pp. 1-4
Ionic conductivity studies have been carried out on KBr:Y crystals at
different temperatures. The conductivity temperature plot of KBr:Y exh
ibits a well-known three-stage conductivity in the temperature range 1
00-560-degrees-C. From the analysis of these plots activation energies
for the migration of cation vacancies, the formation of Schottky pair
s, the association of yttrium ion with a cation vacancy etc. are calcu
lated. The conductivity of KBr:Y after quenching from elevated tempera
ture is found to decrease. This result in comparison with optical abso
rption results is explained on the basis of formation of impurity vaca
ncy dipoles, precipitates and clusters.
