Abstract
A series of Classical Swine Fever (CSF) outbreaks, occurring 1990 in A ustria, led to CSF infections also in wild boars in the north-eastern part of Austria, in the federal state of Lower Austria. Swill feeding was one of the most important causes of outbreaks diagnosed in wild bo ars and in domestic pigs. Small and also clinically inconspicuous farm s shouldn't be underestimated for the propagation of the disease in th e country. Serological examinations of serum samples in domestic pigs in Styria and also in wild boars in Lower Austria showed, that animals may not die of the disease or show typical clinical symptoms. Animals are able to survive an infection as well. In Austria vaccination is f orbidden.
