En. Shumilin et al., ESTIMATION OF THE ROLE OF BIOGEOCHEMICAL BARRIERS IN TRACE-METAL MIGRATION IN THE RIVER SEA SYSTEM, Marine chemistry, 43(1-4), 1993, pp. 217-224
The role of biogeochemical barriers as areas of an estuary with dramat
ically changing gradients of water characteristics in trace metal (TM)
migration in the river-sea system, and the influence of physical, che
mical, biological factors and corresponding barrier zones on the trans
port of TM in estuaries is considered. The effects of surface water pH
(the Yuriev River - the Okhotsk Sea estuarine system), salinity and b
iological productivity (the Razdolnaya River - the Japan Sea estuarine
system) on the behavior of some metals are demonstrated as the exampl
es of different types of estuarine biogeochemical barriers.
