Kh. Fromming et al., INCLUSION-COMPOUNDS OF CHOLESTEROL AND BETA-CYCLODEXTRIN, European journal of pharmaceutics and biopharmaceutics, 39(4), 1993, pp. 148-152
By using H-1-NMR spectroscopy X-ray diffractometry, heat of fusion det
erminations and contact angle measurements, the formation of two inclu
sion compounds between cholesterol and beta-cyclodextrin of different
molar ratios was demonstrated. The preparation of the inclusion compou
nds was performed by shaking aqueous suspensions of cholesterol and di
fferent amounts of dissolved beta-cyclodextrin. A cholesterol/beta-cyc
lodextrin inclusion compound having a molar ratio of 1:2 was obtained
at lower beta-cyclodextrin concentrations (e.g. 2.2 . 10(-3) M), anoth
er one of having a ratio of 1:3 was obtained at higher beta-cyclodextr
in concentrations (13.2 . 10(-3) M.
