Abstract
Three techniques were investigated for recovering the papermaking pote ntial of DIP for fine papers. These were refining, chemical upgrading and blending with virgin pulps. The experimental data were analyzed us ing regression, factorial and response surface methodology. One of the primary objectives of this experiment was the optimization of DIP in bond/offset grades and it was shown that up to 78% DIP may be incorpor ated into a fibre furnish without a significant loss of papermaking po tential occurring.
