Abstract
The Letter studies the formation and analysis of skeletons in binary i mages. Particular emphasis is placed on the concept of crossing number which is found to be subtly different when testing a point known to b e on a skeleton and testing whether a point is on a skeleton: these id eas are applied to the elimination of noise spurs from skeletons.
