Abstract
A method for isolating DNA-specific catalytic antibodies (natural abzy mes) is described Purification procedures include affinity chromatogra phy on protein A Sepharose or DNA-cellulose (the latter using either n ative DNA or glutaraldehyde-modified DNA as sorbent) and gel-permeatio n HPLC. Elution conditions were optimized to ensure maximum yields of activity. Biochemical and immunochemical characteristics of the natura l DNA-specific abzymes are reported Their interaction with a model sub strate and the influence of different effectors on DNA hydrolysis were investigated.
