Rates and activation energies of 2pi/3 propeller-like jumps for the tw
o inequivalent Me3Sn sites in solid crystalline [Me3Sn{mu-MeSO2)2N}Me3
Sn(mu-OH)], 1, as obtained from variable temperature one- and two-dime
nsional C-13 CP/MAS NMR, are discussed in comparison to the single cry
stal X-ray structure of 1 at 296 and 178 K and in conjunction with for
ce field considerations (atom-atom potential energy barrier calculatio
ns). The combined results allow assignment of the two resonances in th
e Sn-119 CP/MAS spectra of 1 to the specific molecular Me3Sn sites in
1 and give evidence as to what structural features in 1 are responsibl
e for the two different energy barriers of the observed 2pi/3 Me3Sn pr
opeller-jump processes.
