Abstract
The distribution of hairy cells in hops together with the developmenta l cytology of resin gland are described. Typical cup-shaped resin glan ds are formed most abundantly on the surfaces of the bracteoles and pe rianth. Observations with an electron microscope showed that an electr on-dense substance is first recognized in proplastids in all sectioned cells at the glandular secretory stage and its migration patterns wit hin the resin gland represent processes of secretion. The results indi cate that the electron-dense substance might be associated with resino us substances.
