Abstract
General analytical expressions for viscosity cross sections and viscos ity coefficients of gases as functions of the parameters of intermolec ular potentials are derived from the first principle using the classic al scattering theory. Two types (one repulsive-attractive and one pure ly repulsive) of the central-force potentials, suitable to represent m olecule-molecule, atom-molecule and atom-atom interactions, are consid ered. The expressions for viscosity show good agreement with results o f numerical calculations in high-temperature single-component gases (a bove 2000 K) where viscosity measurements are not available.
