Mg. Strakhovskaya et al., STIMULATION OF GROWTH OF CANDIDA-GUILLIERMONDII AND STREPTOCOCCUS-FAECALIS BY SEROTONIN, Microbiology, 62(1), 1993, pp. 32-34
Periodic addition of serotonin to the culture medium during growth of
the yeast Candida guilliermondii and the bacterium Streptoccus faecali
s has a stimulating effect on growth of these cultures. The effect is
manifested as activation of cell multiplication in the lag phase, acce
lerated passage of the cultures through the logarithmic phase of growt
h, and the more rapid reaching of the stationary phase. Addition of se
rotonin at intervals of 2 h to the growth medium in a concentration of
10(-7) M provided optimal conditions for realization of its stimulati
ng action.
