Vm. Tereshina et al., STIMULATORY EFFECT OF GREEN LIGHT ON BETA-CAROTENE FORMATION BY THE HETEROTHALLIC FUNGUS BLAKESLEA-TRISPORA, Microbiology, 62(1), 1993, pp. 39-42
Spores of (+) and (-) strains of Blakeslea trispora formed during irra
diation with green light give rise to mycelium forming more beta-carot
ene than that in the control. The most favorable light regime for cult
uring the spores is a periodic alternation of darkness and light. The
possibility is discussed of using light-activated spores as inoculator
y material in a number of biotechnical processes in order to intensify
biosynthesis of secondary fungal metabolites.
