Ls. Shalapenok et Aa. Shalapenok, SPECIAL FEATURES OF ULTRASTRUCTURE AND SPECTRAL CHARACTERISTICS OF PHYCOERYTHRIN OF BLACK-SEA PICOCYANOBACTERIA IN CULTURE, Microbiology, 62(1), 1993, pp. 68-72
A monoculture of phycoerythrin-rich picocyanobacteria has been isolate
d from surface waters of the Black Sea. Electron-microscope studies re
vealed the presence of an unusual surface layer made up of regularly a
rranged subunits and spinoid structures. Because of the unusual spectr
al characteristics of absorption by the phycoerythrin, this strain can
not be classed with any certainty among the known spectral types of ph
ycoerythrins of picocyanobacteria.
