A stochastic model of particulate transport in a porous medium is pres
ented. The model includes the influences of the random movements of th
e particulates and the fluid in its development, which in turn are bas
ed on measurable physical and hydraulic characteristics of the situati
on under consideration. Model performance was evaluated using 40 sets
of data collected under laboratory conditions. Results were found to b
e quite good for the turbulent flow conditions in the tests. Compariso
n with an earlier model presented by Sakthivadivel for Darcy flow cond
itions showed the stochastic model much better for the turbulent flow
conditions tested.
