We obtain the most general local counterterm of Witten's topological Y
ang-Mills field theory in a Landau type gauge. Our results, being base
d on the algebraic BRS-renormalization technique, are regularization i
ndependent and extend to all orders of perturbation theory. As a direc
t consequence of the present derivation, it is shown that the cohomolo
gical nature of the model is totally insensitive to quantum effects. I
t is also proven that the Slavnov identity is anomaly free, in accord
with a previous observation of Baulieu and Singer.
