Ss. Malhi et M. Nyborg, COMPACTION OF SOILS - YIELD OF BARLEY IN GREENHOUSE AND FIELD, Communications in soil science and plant analysis, 24(13-14), 1993, pp. 1453-1464
The objective Of this Study was to find the effect of artificial compa
ction on yield of barley grain on Black Chernozem and Gray Luvisol soi
ls in greenhouse and field experiments. In the greenhouse experiment,
the compaction decreased grain and straw yield of barley in the 0 and
50 kg N ha-1 rates of urea mixed into soil. Under field conditions. th
ere was a reduction of barley yield in 3 of the 8 experiments and an i
ncrease of yield in one experiment due to compaction. On the average o
f 8 field experiments, the yield differences between compacted and non
compacted treatments were 212, 271 and 428 kg ha-1 for the zero-N cont
rol, 50 and 100 kg N ha-1, respectively.
