The structure of the algebra generated by one-electron charge and spin
density operators with an appropriately defined convolution product i
s investigated in the context of the unitary group approach (UGA) to t
he many-electron correlation problem. The new idempotent density opera
tors, defined via the unitary group U(n) projection operators, are int
roduced and employed to investigate the behavior of charge and spin de
nsity operators under the convolution product.
