Abstract
Several 1,3-diphenyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-gamma-carbolines (2) have been synthesized from the corresponding 2,6-diphenylpiperidin-4-ones by us ing formic acid as a solvent as well as cyclizing agent. A one-step sy nthesis of gamma-carboline from 2,6-diphenylpiperidin-4-ones using for mic acid and glacial acetic acid respectively is also reported.
