Abstract
Based on a large number of experiments, a simple formula is developed for the time-averaged free surface profile of a classical hydraulic ju mp. This novel approach is based on the length of the roller. The resu lting surface profile fits the data well for usual inflow Froude numbe rs in the range of 2 to 10.
