It is for the first time that the intermetallic compound Ho2Al17 was p
repared. The compound is paramagnetic and obeys the Curie-Weiss law wi
th THETA(p) = 18 K and mu(eff/fu) = 14.89 mu(B) and crystallizes in th
e hexagonal structure with the lattice parameters a = 9.80 angstrom an
d c = 8.76 angstrom. The intermetallic compound Ho2Ni17 Crystallizes i
n the hexagonal structure with a = 8.32 angstrom and c = 8.03 angstrom
. The compound is ferrimagnetic with T(c) = 612 K and the effective ma
gnetic moment per formula unit determined from the paramagnetic region
is mu(eff/fu) = 16.5 1 mu(B), very close to the theoretical value 16.
44 muB. The Curie temperature for the once melted samples is 462 K and
shifts up to 612 K for the samples heated in the magnetic field (0.95
T) at 1150 K during 1 h.
