The temporal behavior of the beam divergence of a copper vapor laser (
CVL) equipped with on- or off-axis unstable resonators at 510.6 nm has
been investigated experimentally and theoretically. The temporal chan
ge of the beam divergence is measured using a streak camera and is eva
luated by the M2 factor. Narrowing of the beam divergence during the p
ulse is observed. Also is found that the difference of the narrowing r
atio between the on-axis and off-axis unstable resonators resulted fro
m the near-field pattern of the laser beam.
