A. Sergeev et al., DELOCALIZATION AND RADIATIVE DAMPING OF SOLITONS IN MEDIA WITH A DYNAMICAL NONLINEAR RESPONSE, Optics communications, 101(3-4), 1993, pp. 219-222
The propagation of solitary pulses in media with a nonlinear dynamical
response is analyzed. It is demonstrated that a soliton experiences a
continuous frequency downshift and subsequent deacceleration. This is
associated with a slow emission of electromagnetic quanta ahead of th
e soliton giving rise to delocalization and damping of the pulse. The
radiative damping process is particularly pronounced in media with a s
trong relaxation response.
