This study addresses problems of the assessment of the effectiveness o
f insulation components (spacers, washers, etc.) used for the electric
al release of a variety of metallic structures operating in media that
are aggressive in corrosion respects. Basic laws governing the reduct
ion in corrosion rate as a function of parameters of insulation spacer
s with incomplete electrical release of metallic components are brough
t to light in an example of the solution of the problem of the current
distribution of contact corrosion during electrochemical interaction
between disk and annular coplanar concentric electrodes. Optimal relat
ionships between the thicknesses of the spacers and the characteristic
dimensions of the interacting components ate established.
