Four hundred and eighty and 400 females of Culex pipiens molestus mosq
uitoes collected at the beginning and the end of the hibernation perio
d 1990/91, respectively, and 140 female mosquitoes of the genus Aedes
(mostly Ae. vexans) collected during August and September 1990 in sout
hern Moravia (CSFR) were examined by dark field microscopy for the pre
sence of borreliae. Borreliae were detected in 4.1% of Aedes vexans. C
ulex pipiens molestus mosquitoes harboured borreliae in 4.3% in autumn
and 3.5% in the next spring.
