In the years 1987-1988 population structure and dynamics of infusoria
(Ciliophora) were investigated in the Turiec River. The river is still
preserving its original nature well. Three types of substrata (swamp-
detritus, platns, rocks) were studied. Two peaks of abundance and biom
ass (spring and autumn) were found during the year. Infusoria substrat
um plants were most abundant, both in abundance and biomass of these t
hree substrata examined. High numbers were recorded also on rocks. In
the Turiec River 148 species of infusoria were found. Some 43 % of the
m were bacterivorous, 41 % were omnivorous and predatory species less
than 17 %.
