The extraction properties of diphosphine dioxides containing substitut
ed methylene bridges are studied for REE and TPE in various diluents.
The diluent properties are demonstrated much less to affect the extrac
tion properties of the diphosphine dioxides containing one or two subs
tituents on the methylene bridge than those of dioxides without substi
tuents. This is probably due to both a decrease of the methylene H aci
dity after adding the substituent and steric hindrances.
