Calculations are presented for the kinetics of Pu(IV) (5.10(-4)-0.1 M)
behavior in 0.3-6 M HNO3 with alpha- and gamma-radiolysis. For HNO3!
< 1 M, Pu(IV) is both oxidized and reduced. For HNO3! greater-than-o
r-equal-to 1 M, Pu(IV) is either stable or oxidized to Pu(VI) dependin
g on the concentration and dose rate. The mechanism of the radiation-c
hemical reduction and oxidation of Pu(IV) is examined.
