Abstract
International adoption is a politically sensitive phenomenon. Every ye ar, thousands of children arrive in the USA from over 100 countries fo r adoption. Infectious disease screening of children from these divers e political, social, and geographic backgrounds is best accomplished u sing a standardized protocol, including a review of immunizations, a c omplete blood count and urinalysis, and screening tests for hepatitis B, HIV, intestinal parasites, tuberculosis and syphilis.
