Abstract
An improved method, based on an extension of the self-consistent metho d from the linear theory, is proposed to evaluate the effective third- order elastic constants for isotropic aggregates of cubic crystals. Th e calculated constants are compared with the Voigt and Reuss-type esti mates, which are currently the only other analytical estimates availab le for these constants. The agreement between calculations and experim ental data is then discussed. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd.
