Abstract
We have studied the characteristics of Yb+ held in a rf trap in the pr esence of a light buffer gas by irradiation with resonant light beams, including those for depleting the metastable state of the 2D3/2 and F -2(7/2) states. Further investigation was also made concerning the dis appearance of ionic detection signals via rf resonance absorption by i rradiation with the radiation driving the S-2(1/2)-P-2(1/2) transition .
