Vm. Korovin et Yl. Raikher, INCREASING THE RELIABILITY OF ULTRASONIC INSPECTION WITH USE OF MAGNETOLIQUID ACOUSTIC CONTACT, Russian journal of nondestructive testing, 28(12), 1992, pp. 776-780
This article proposes a simple method of determination of the reliabil
ity of ultrasonic inspection in terms of the probability of detection
of a defect of a certain equivalent size. The method was used for a co
mparative investigation of the reliability of ultrasonic inspection in
the contact and immersion methods and also with use of magnetoliquid
acoustic contact. The investigation results show that use of magnetoli
quid acoustic contact increases the probability of revealing of a defe
ct with a signal/noise ratio of 6 dB from 30% to 100% and provides a r
eduction in labor of three to five times without a decrease in reliabi
lity.
