Abstract
The bite of the brown recluse spider rapidly causes an infarction in s kin that is painful and can be slow to heal. This is the only North Am erican spider to cause such severe necrosis. The bite sometimes can pr oduce a sudden, severe hemolysis. Conservative care without drugs is t he safest proven treatment.
