Abstract
The presented method for the selective detection of oxygen is based on the measurement of periodic variations in the velocity of sound. Thes e variations are induced in an oxygen-containing gas sample by the att raction of the paramagnetic oxygen molecules in a modulated inhomogene ous magnetic field. The variations in the velocity of sound are measur ed by detuning an ultrasonic resonator. At a modulation frequeny of th e magnetic field of 20 Hz and a time constant of 1 s a S/N ratio of 47 was found.
