Muonic hydrogen atoms transfer their muon in collisions to other eleme
nts. In transfer to neon, the yield of the resulting characteristic mu
onic X-rays can be used to determine the muon capture ratio in hydroge
n to neon. The per atom capture ratio has been measured in three diffe
rent gas mixtures H-2 + Ne at 15 bar, with neon concentrations of 0.7%
, 1.4% and 2.0%. The per atom capture ratio A(H/Ne) has been found to
be independent of the neon concentration with a value of about 1/16.
