This article examines the size distributions of firms in Finland, both
with the number of employees and turnover as the size measure. The pe
rcentage share of the total number of employees in Finnish firms and o
f their total turnover is calculated for the different size classes. O
n the basis of these figures one can see that the importance of the sm
all and middlesize firms has been exaggerated. Their relative share ha
s increased over time, however, but the large enterprises still consti
tute an important group. Compared with the EC-countries the importance
of the large enterprises is relatively seen much greater in Finland.
