Abstract
The electropolymerization of a new heterocyclic monomer, viz. N-antipy ryl acrylamide, has been carried out in dimethylformamide using a Ni e lectrode. Better yields and higher degrees of polymerization are obtai ned in the presence of tetrabutylammonium perchlorate as a supporting electrolyte. A study has been made of the effects of various parameter s such as duration of electrolysis, current strength, concentrations o f monomer and electrolyte, type of electrolyte and the temperature of the reaction on the yield of the polymer and the rate of polymerizatio n. An electropolymerization mechanism is suggested and confirmed by i. r. spectra, differential thermal analysis and thermogravimetric analys is.
