Lb. Yuan et al., ANALYSIS OF THE COMPENSATION MECHANISM OF A FIBEROPTIC DISPLACEMENT SENSOR, Sensors and actuators. A, Physical, 36(3), 1993, pp. 177-182
This paper describes the evaluation of a fiber-optic displacement sens
or that is compensated for variations in light-source intensity as wel
l as for losses in the fibers. On the basis of the intensity distribut
ion function of the output optical field formed by the source fiber en
d, the compensation mechanism of the twin-receiving-fiber displacement
sensor is analyzed. It is shown theoretically that the ratio of the o
utputs of a pair of detecting fibers is independent of the light-sourc
e intensity and losses in the fiber system. Results are presented that
confirm this.
