Abstract
The {xMnO +(1 - x)NiO} solid solutions were studied thermodynamically in the temperature range from 973 K to 1173 K by sold-state galvanic c ells containing beta ''-alumina electrolytes conducting manganese(II) and nickel(II) ions, respectively. The experimental procedure allowed us to determine the NiO and MnO activities directly from the e.m.f. me asurements. The solutions exhibited positive deviation from ideal beha viour, but they could be regarded as regular solutions. (C) 1997 Acade mic Press Limited.
