We report a case of enteric fever in a 5-year-old child due to Salmone
lla typhi resistant to chloramphenicol and cotrimoxazole, successfully
treated with ampicillin. The infection was most probably contracted i
n India. Clinicians and microbiologists in Saudi Arabia are advised to
look out for cases of enteric fever due to multi-resistant strains of
Salmonella typhi in nationals from the Indian subcontinent and from t
ourists returning from that part of the world.
