This study compares the containment performance of disposable paper di
apers containing absorbent gelling material and reusable cloth diaperi
ng systems by determining urine capacities and by measuring leakage of
fluorescent-labelled synthetic feces in a simulated day care setting.
The disposable paper diapers had 2-3 times the fluid capacity of clot
h diapers (p < 0.05). Use of paper diapers in a simulated day care set
ting resulted in significantly less fecal leakage (p = 0.009) and sign
ificantly less fecal contamination of the mom floor area (p = 0.001).
